Who We Are
The Kings Community Concert Band is a music group that is run by a board of member volunteers in consultation with our Director.
We are an open group made up of amateur musicians from many walks of life. We read and play music at an intermediate to advanced level.
Our priority is that everyone feels they are a valued and important part of the band.
Holly Leader grew up close to Mahone Bay, where she fell in love with music while singing, playing piano and the trumpet, on her own and with community groups. While in Mahone Bay, she performed in many music festivals winning awards and praise for her technique and musicality.
Holly is a graduate of Acadia University School of Music with a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education. While at Acadia, Holly studied conducting with Dr. Mark Hopkins and under his tutelage was a student-leader with the Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble.
Holly’s first instrument is trumpet. She has performed with different groups across Nova Scotia and across Canada such as The Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, and The Denis Wick Canadian Orchestra in Toronto, Chester Brass Band, Scotia Brass and Glass Winds. While at Acadia she performed with the Acadia Wind Ensemble, Acadia Symphonic Band, Acadia Orchestra and Acadia Jazz Bands.
Holly is currently teaching Music and Band in Halifax. She is active in her community as she has taught at Summer Music Camps at Acadia University and on the South Shore. She is also on the Nova Scotia Youth Wind Ensemble committee and is a member of the Nova Scotia Band Association Executive.
We are very fortunate to have such an enthusiastic and capable person working with us.
This is one of the most welcoming bands I have ever played in.
I can't wait to get to band on Monday nights. It's am amazing way to kick off the week.
I came back to playing after a long absence. It's like waking up and stretching my brain after a long sleep.
